Life saving programs for animals shelters have been available since the 1990's. They currently exist successfully in over 300 communities in the United States. They are successful in both open and closed admission shelters, public and private shelters, shelters positioned in urban and rural areas, shelters with small and large admission rates, shelters residing in different political areas and areas of varying affluency, and communities that include puppy factories and backyard breeders.
Life saving is cost effective and it provides a safe environment for shelter staff.
